Lole, I also read that entry by @nerduno, who happens to include a very significant disclaimer... he is also a Sangoma shareholder, and following his advice, I would tend to ask a lawyer and not follow low-level employees NOR I would shareholders. The "write a letter to the Sangoma CEO asking for clarification" sounds strange to me. But this is not the point, the point is this project needs to do what's best for it, not what others think would be best for them.

Hay que atender asuntos legales con abogados como ya se anuncio en varias fuentes, no basta anuncios de buena intención de empleados e interesados de ambas partes y en todo caso no es tan fácil ser libre basado en FreePBX, Nunca!
Asterisk13 es el camino de la verdad, sino puro mercadeo con el cadáver de Elastix, útil para el cliente ya instalado, pero no soluciona la evolución natural requerida

As for the GPL issue in the Wignall letter, the solution is both obvious and trivial. "We therefore ask that you please reinsert the proper copyrights in all locations where FreePBX Code was utilized." That's ALL he requests. And he's right. That is central to the GPL.

Note that I am not a lawyer and in no way materially related to any of the companies involved. I do, however, read English, a skill that many other native English-speakers lack.

gmbs In the letter Wignall refers to Elastix MT.

Issabel is forking Elastix 2.5 and 4 (not MT).

So that section does not apply. Elastix 2.x and 4.x includes a freePBX rpm package, that as far as I can tell, has no modifications to the original code. So I think that all copyright notices are retained (but I could be wrong, a proper code audit should be performed). Wignall only concern for Elastix 4 is that is an outdated FreePBX (not the latest available).

There appears to be ongoing discussion as to which version(s) of Elastix and FreePBX source code we are going to use as the basis for Issabel. I wouldn't mind having Issabel built upon the newest stable version of FreePBX source code, as long as we don't lose a lot of external module compatibility in the process. Modules are KEY. If we lose module compatibility, we aren't forking Elastix, we are building another FreePBX skin.

Please note that the licenses for the externally developed commercial modules for Elastix and FreePBX are NOT OPEN. That is a minefield where we will need too walk very carefully.
